In today’s Exponential Investor…
- What did Kit do on holiday?
- Is Apple a leader any more?
- OnlyFans “performers” make a killing
It’s your latest episode of the Exponential Investor podcast and Kit is back from his holiday to tell us all about what he was up to.
With half-term coming up for a lot of families, it’s worth noting there’s one thing that we absolutely recommend you do if taking a little break – which is exactly what Kit did on his break.
That’s to just switch off the social feeds. Hitting that refresh button in anticipation of new content is akin to spinning the roulette wheel. It’s the same kind of mental reaction, the same kind of “hit” gamblers get.
Just remember, in both situations, the house always wins.
The “house” might be the casino, or it might be the likes of Facebook, Twitter, Google or Apple. It doesn’t matter, when you’re constantly going back to them for that fix, you’re playing right into their hands.
That leads us to the question of how long will it continue? And do their predatory advertising practices forecast a dystopian outcome for us, or will new ,exciting and innovative ways to market and advertise come to the fore?
Will we even be using Facebook in a few years’ time, will it even exist? People thought MySpace would never fail… and it did. People say the same about Facebook now. But as we’ve seen with the rise in new platforms like TikTok and the more interesting OnlyFans phenomenon, there will always be newcomers to the space that challenge how we think about everything.
We discuss all this and more in today’s very interesting Exponential Investor podcast.
Regards,
Sam Volkering and Kit Winder
